Islamophobia in the Post-Hamas World

On October 7th 2023, Hamas militants attacked the Israeli People. This led to the killing of many civilians and the taking of hostages as well.

The Media

The October 7th attack sparked an Israeli miltary-formed response to Gaza and they quickly attacked Gaza, killing over 32,000 Palestinians and injuring more than 74,000 others. With this war taking place, everyone pointed fingers. The media showed Muslims as the problem and them being the reasoning for all these deaths happening. The misinformation led to many attacks of discrimination towards Muslims all over the world, not just Gaza.

Resulting Hate Crimes and Discrimination

Zacharia Doar

A 23 year old Palestinian Muslim-American, Zacharia Doar, was stabbed in the chest in Austin, Texas after protesting for Palestinian rights on the way home.

Hisham Awartani

20 year old student Hisham Awartani was shot in the U.S for simply wearing the keffiyeh scarf and is now currently paralyzed from the chest down.

Wadea Al-Fayoume

6 year old Wadea Al-Fayoume was violently stabbed and killed in the act of a targeted attack in the comfort of his own home.

Isha Hussein

Isha Hussein, a second year college student, received threats from her roommate because of her support for the Palestinian people. Threats such as stabbing and scaring Isha through the roommate's IDF soldier sister made her extremely uncomfortable and scared. When trying to take the matters to the board of her college, they repeatedly dismissed her and denied for room changes.

اللَّهُمَّ اسْتُرْ عَوْرَاتِهِم وَآمِنْ رَوْعَاتِهِم وَاحْفَظْهُم مِنْ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِم وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِم وَعَنْ أَيمَانِهِم وَعَنْ شَمَائلِهِم وَمِنْ فَوْقِهِم
Allahumma ustur ‘awraatihim wa-aamin raw’aatihim wahfadhhum min bayni aydeehim wa min khalfihim wa ‘an aymaanihim wa ‘an shamaa’ilihim wa min fawqihim
